What are Spirit Charms?
Spirit Charms are equippable passive items in VV: Ultimatum, ranked in Tiers 1-4, that grant unique abilities and gameplay modifications - equipping beyond 3 total Notches costs 6% maximum HP per excess Notch.
Spirit Charms are VV: Ultimatum's passive-item layer: each one changes how your character plays, from flat stat bumps to full playstyle rewrites, and the strongest ones deliberately pair a powerful benefit with a real drawback. Every charm has a Tier, and that Tier determines how many Notches the charm occupies when equipped. You can wear multiple charms at once, but the moment your combined Notch count goes past 3, the game starts taxing you: maximum HP drops by 6% for every Notch over the limit.
Charms come from several documented sources. Most list a zone where they are found (Hueco Mundo, Arctic Plains, Soul Society Outskirts and others), a number drop directly from specific bosses, a few are sold by NPC vendors, and the Valley of Screams always offers two random charms on pedestals that can be collected for free. The Valley is also where charms are removed - enter through its portal and you can unequip any number of Spirit Charms.
There is also a merging system. Inside a secret laboratory in Hueco Mundo, two charms can be combined into a stronger version that enhances the result's abilities and/or stats - but the merged charm's Tier rises as well, eating more of your Notch budget. Starting the process requires a special item called an Energy Cell.
