One-Handed Katana

One-Handed Katana is a weapon style for the base katana in VV: Ultimatum, learned from Hideo near Mizuki Soto for 300 soul tokens plus a quest to Parry-Execute 2 enemies - it adds damage and range at an apparent cost to speed.

The One-Handed Katana style lets you wield your base katana in a single hand, replacing both your M1 strings and your critical attack with one-handed versions. Per current community documentation the trade is slightly more damage and slightly more range, seemingly at the cost of attack speed - the speed penalty is described tentatively in the source, so treat it as subject to change per current documentation.

To unlock it, find Hideo, a man in the small cave near Mizuki Soto. He offers the style quest for a fee of 300 soul tokens. The quest itself has a single but technical objective: Parry-Execute 2 enemies.

A parry-execute is a specific finisher, and the community documentation spells out the setup: reduce an enemy to very low health, then keep parrying them as their posture climbs. When an enemy has high posture and very low health at the moment you parry them, the parry becomes a parry-execute. In other words, you must deliberately not kill the target with normal hits - whittle them down first, then win the parry exchange to trigger the execution. Do that twice and the One-Handed style is yours.
